The Significance in the Life of Christ

One thing which we all seem to get caught up in when remembering the life of Christ, is to celebrate the wonder and significance of the moment.  This can be and is a very admirable thing to do indeed; however, what we do not always do is celebrate what Christ did as being something of the present.  We have all heard so many wonderful sermons or Bible studies which delve into the amazing accounts of His life and in turn, just what those actions secured for you and me when He did them.  This is true and greatly beneficial to our spiritual health, but to the hungry seeker there is far more.

We could study and pray and meditate our entire lifetime and never fully understand all the significance or the wonders that our Savior accomplished by coming and dying for us.  For sure this is one of the highest pursuits of men to ponder and concern themselves.  But as we have said, in spiritual terms we cannot set the limits nor contain the entire measure.  The Holy Scriptures are still the living word, meaning they are the expressions of our God, who is eternal and carry in themselves that same quality.  One word uttered by our God continues to have the same amount of value and significance with the passing of time and generations.  In being words of spiritual context and intention, they may speak to any and every person wherever and whenever they may be.

The one thing that causes God´s word to have life and significance to a person is a shift in sight.  For a person who cares enough to discover what spiritual words would say that person must take his or her eyes off of him or herself for a moment at least.  This initial act of leaving behind prejudices, previous accumulated knowledge and the commonly accepted interpretations, allows a miracle to begin within the heart.  By lifting our gaze and our understanding up into the wonder which is our Lord, we leave the door open for none other than the Holy Spirit to enter and to teach us.

We call this a miracle because in our current natural state we do not let ourselves be open to the instruction of a mysterious, unseen source.  However, there are many who may testify that the intelligence and caring individual which lies beyond our sight, can and does move in the most powerful ways.  When the Spirit moves in the life of a believer, it always astonished and amazed those who witness or experience that marvelous encounter.  Whatever was experience or learned there is far fuller and more intelligent than the expectations of the one to whom the revelation came.

What is more wonderful to consider is that in being spiritual and having that everlasting quality, you and I can gain just as much blessed instruction and Christ endearing help as any other individual could throughout all the ages.

I don´t know about you, but if your impression of God is large enough to give Him the possibility of having this kind of power attached to each and every word He has given us, then the sky is the limit, and our souls will soar when we contemplate His glory.

Worship for such a believer becomes an awesome experience.  All the words of God may bring showers of blessings and your heart swells to bursting point as it tries to take in all the mighty possibilities wrapped up in the beautiful spiritual content.  All things then lead to and bow to the One worthy of our attention and our praise.  But the best part is that it is never separate from Him, in that as we are carried to heights unimaginable in our adoration, we are magically close to the one whom we seek.  You may be on your knees or on the floor in tears, but Jesus is closer than your own skin.  That loving embrace with which He holds us and carries us through our treacherous journey through life is never so evident and the communion more real.  His instruction in these moments is ever so timely and preciously healing.  Oh, if we could all give any price to have the taste of such an encounter with Him.

So then the life of Jesus was infinitely important to us in all aspects, but equally beautiful and equally important are the reality and presence of our Lord right now.  To us today Jesus is living in the actual running present.  What he means to you and I today, what He can do for us in this instant.  The attention of our hearts does not need to carry back in time to a former age.  We can draw near to that wonderful being.  In fact we must do just this as it is what were taught and what we should believe if we would like to call ourselves ¨Christ-ians.¨

Therefore, what can we grab as good healthy instruction and what is a good path to take today.  Let us use every instruction and every story that the Bible gives us.  Let us gleam every testimony and the writings of God-minded saints, to lift up today, right now our entire attention and our whole hearts unto Him.

We need to begin to see Jesus in the here and now.  We must make every effort to turn our hearts from our own lives and place them firmly and visibly upon the Living God.  Take care not to think any thought nor do any action without lifting it up unto Him for His approval and His direction.  We do not live for a God who acted once upon a time.  Neither do we live for a God who will be one day in the future.  Our obligation is to the God who inhabits effortlessly the former times, the now and all eternity.  We need to draw near to Him in actual living experience today.  We need to accustom ourselves to the sound of His voice, so that on that blessed day we will recognize it as a sweet sound and be able to follow it.  If we do not recognize it now, we will not recognize it then either.

Nothing is more important than where you and I are in relation to Jesus at this very moment.  Any teaching or any viewpoint pushed upon us from any direction which fails to give this amount of importance to the matter is infinitely dangerous to our souls.  May none of us take the matter lightly nor settle it for ourselves.  But rather let us take our true current relation to Him frequently and in all honesty.  Ask Him for His light to see the true condition and the true intentions of our hearts and allow Him to work in His power and unto His purposes.  Let us pray each day to be more afflicted in our love towards Him and more aware of His movements and instruction.  Let us live so fully in Him that it is no longer us living but rather Him living and moving inside of us.

This is what He has asked and what He intended for us.  Search, study and pray but do it to the familiar Savior of the past who still and most importantly lives for you and I today.

Amen
