Matthew 7:1-6 Talks about judging our neighbor. We have for sure heard it said before that we need to consider first our own guilt before we accuse any other person. This is sound advice but perhaps falls short of what our Savior is trying to teach us here.
We are not called to be held accountable to human beings. Our correct adjustment has and always will be to God Himself. None the less we earthlings are constantly and stubbornly seeking to do just the opposite. We are forever comparing ourselves to one another.
Perhaps the fact that we still cannot see God with our own eyes, makes us prone to looking at those around us. But whatever the case, this is not the Lord´s intention for us.
Each and every last person on earth from creation of the world to the end of times, will be judged in the end by his or her own standing with the Lord. Not one of us will make it through the golden gates because we formed part of a special group of people or a select race.
Biblical teaching is quite clear on this subject, even if our preferred interpretations try to water it down or alter it to better suit our nature.
Many great examples can be found in the Bible of men and women who looked past those around them and focused intently upon the Lord. Regardless of limitations, race or sinful history, these pure souls threw off the tendency of adjusting themselves to their neighbor and bowed directly to God above.
Be it ever-so-easy to focus ourselves on what we can see instead of the Great Unseen, it is the call of the Christian to press on beyond that. Take up your Bible, open your heart before the Lord. Read again the familiar texts and allow the Holy Spirit to show you where your loyalty should lie.
When we stop looking sideways at our brethren and return our gaze unto its intended purpose, our religion begins to take form and substance. Please do not get comfortable with your participation with the correct race or religious preferences. Always go deeper and make it personal between you and your God.
To find Jesus we need to seek Him personally. This means a relationship, where there is a lot of giving and taking. There must be much communication and bonding. It is essential that we are so familiar to being with and listening and talking to Jesus. Our religion is nothing until we start to have a very real relationship. Correct thinking is just not good enough here.
We need to experience the Lord daily. When we do we will for sure want more. When we do this we light a little fire inside which, with prayer and further seeking, can and does grow into a raging torrent burning for Him. But it is always an intelligent giving and receiving with this other entity in living experience.
This is where you and I need to be. This is what we need to concern ourselves with. Cultivation our burning desire after the Lord. When we begin to find a little success here, we find ourselves less and less concerned with what our poor neighbor is doing wrong.
We look to correct what is wrong with ourselves and the effects our soul has suffered by being born into a world of sin. As we adjust ourselves to that healing power and focus on nothing less, we become more of an example and we are better prepared to offer a hand of encouragement.
Let us go to the Lord today and every day, asking and pleading Him to search our souls. We can bring our own case to Him first for His examination. He will for sure see if we have any splinters or logs in our eye. He is also the only one worthy to be pointing out the sliver in our neighbors eye.
Always and forever let us look to Him and include our entire self in the transaction.
Amen
