Is God Hiding Something From Us?

At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.  Matthew 11:25 (KJV)

With all the wealth of information the Christian has available to us along with years of instruction, you would think that every last person on earth knows what is in the great heart of our God.  There are countless sermons, books, radio and television shows, all kinds of music and studies, yet with all this bombardment to the senses; do we really hear what God whispers to us deep within our souls?

For all the effort religions have made through the years, our true emphasis is not to huddle together in like-minded groups and muster our puny strengths.  The church has its place and will be the bride of Christ in the end.  However, our call has always been to God Himself.  Each and every individual must painfully work out for itself where it stands in direct relation to the Divine.

There has never lived a person on earth who will pass on into the new life because they associated with the correct sort of people.  Our adjustment just isn´t towards men.  Rather, we must all be found with, or without a strong personal standing with our Lord and Savior.  This will be the deciding factor when we are called to settle our accounts.

One of the greatest blessings and gifts God ever gave us was our mental capabilities.  He places within us the ability to learn, to think and to reason.  The human mind is capable of amazing feats of assimilating information.  We take a look at a situation and weigh all the given information.  Then we process this information like a living computer and finally we come to our conclusions.  The whole process is marvelous, but in spiritual terms, it may be fatal to our souls.

As beneficial as thinking is, it does not consist of the same things as the spiritual.  Our brains are created machines which were created to serve their purpose.  But there exists another realm where dwells the spiritual.  In this realm, our reason just does not have enough data to be worth much use.  In this ¨other¨ realm all things center on God, not merely on mental capacities.  Faith is the organ we would use to access and process things there.

God is the center of all things, Jesus is the piece that directs us towards that core.  Nobody has seen the Father or truly knows Him accept Jesus.  This shows us that the importance lies not in facts and data, but rather in relationship.  The union of personalities in living relationship holds value here where mountains of cold fact and forceful proof are left without their hard-earned value.

Jesus was able to say that it pleased the Father to show these things unto babes.  A young child does not assimilate all the information given to it before it steps out onto a truth.  The whole process is different from the thinking adult.  We withhold our verdict until we have accumulated enough information to support our ideas.

Apparently it pleases our Father to have placed the things closest to His heart at the grasp of simple, genuine hearted people who are like babes in their simple faith in Him.  This does not rule out smart people from having their part with Him.  But when we pride ourselves in our abilities to assimilate the data and come out with God, then perhaps we are looking in the wrong direction.

Dear Lord, we know that there will be those calling themselves Christians, who will try to approach you with their superior minds.  They have studied and worked their conclusions of who and what You are.  But for us, please make us like babies.  We do not want to miss out on knowing You and we know it pleases You to show Yourself to those simple trusting young hearts.  So take away any faith we have in our powers of deduction, and give us rather Your Son.  Let us draw near to Jesus and make that closeness be the filling factor. Help us to unlearn our wisdom and become again like infants again, who whole-heartedly follow You because it is You and that is where we are at home.

In His name we pray and for Him will be all things, our very selves included.

Amen
