And (He) charged them that they should not make Him known. Matthew 12:16 (KJV)
There He was, God, miraculously crammed into the body of a human, walking around the streets with normal people. All that He did and all that He said demonstrated that He was from a different way of thought and moved with a different power and authority. He came to the very people who wore God´s name and called themselves His people. But even so, if it were not for the miracles He was performing, they would not have recognized Him.
Matthew 12:15-21
However, the way Jesus commanded disease and suffering to leave the ailing people gave light to the fact that He was indeed the Divine here in the form of man.
Now this fact we all may agree is an amazing feat. But there is not a person alive or who has ever lived who could really capture all that this means. Our brains are just not capable of encompassing because we are created beings and we have not yet been shown what lies beyond that veil into the kingdom of God. There have been individuals who have seen in visions or had experiences, but even so, they could not possibly see in full.
No matter how impossible it was to have the creator, magically transformed into one of His own created beings, there He was. This is indeed quite a bite-full to try to swallow, but even more amazing was the way He was moving among us.
Now it is evident that there was no effort on His part to achieve any of the great works He was performing. With a touch or a word, things just simply changed into the way He desired. But part of the work He was here to perform was to teach us and show us what was expected from you and me individually.
Jesus was the one person in all the history of the world who should have been able to stand up and tell the rest of humanity, ¨Look at Me.¨ but He didn´t do it like that. He could have walked up to kings and authorities and said, ¨Step aside, I am here and all authority belongs to Me.¨
Instead Jesus moved around with common people. He went into the synagogues and taught, but He always withdrew to quiet places. He knew what work He needed to perform and directed Himself entirely to it. He needed people to recognize who He was so that they could learn what He had to teach, but at the same time He needed to let others kill Him so that He could pay the price our sins required in death.
So Jesus taught the people who came to learn from Him, to look always to God the Father. He encouraged us to live our lives for eternal purposes and an eternal King instead of making too much of our personal and temporary existence here. He wanted us to be like Him in the fact that we looked to God and not ourselves.
Jesus showed us by word and example that this was how He was able to alter reality Himself. He did His awesome miracles by the power of His Father and by seeking His Father´s will and glory. This too He encourages us to imitate and tells us of our necessity to do just that.
However, the way we do all things is crucial. Jesus Christ was humble. He was meek. He performed amazing things, but deferred the praise. He did not shout in the streets, He didn´t even break reeds or blow out flames. He merely stayed true to His God, directed completely to doing the will of His Father and bringing glory to His name.
We have placed our hope in Jesus Christ. Let us draw nearer always to Him in every way. We would be like Him in spirit and deed and thought. The very eyes of our souls would be so full of Him, that whatever we think or feel or do is first flowing through Him. He is the chosen of God and His Father is well pleased with Him. If He can be found in you and me, then the Father will be pleased with us.
So let us remove ourselves from our hearts and souls today. Let us seek Jesus before anything else on our agenda. Let us place all our hope in Him right here and right now and start a new way of being. This new Way would endure for all eternity.
Blessed be the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! May the Father be further honored by finding His Son in the hearts and souls of those of us given unto Him. And may you and I be included in those who were entrusted with such a great treasure as Jesus Christ.
Amen
