Weeds

So the slaves of the master of the house came and said to him, ¨Master, did you not sow fine seed in your field?  How, then, does it have weeds?¨  Matthew 13:27 (New World Translation)

Wouldn´t it be a nice trick to be able to say that the weeds in Jesus´ parable were the people who do not go to church or claim to believe in God?

Unfortunately though, the parable in Matthew 13 verses 24 to 30, talks about the fields that belong to the Master.  It makes no mention of the neighboring fields or that of the enemy of the One in this story.

¨Hold on,¨ you say.  ¨Are you pointing fingers and saying that right here in the body of believers where I worship or in this family, there are weeds growing?¨

It may not be pleasant to think so, but it might be highly beneficial to our spiritual health to make all instruction personal and place our own selves in the judgment seat to avoid future disappointment.

As long as we live here in this current state, we are susceptible to deceit from the tricks of our Master´s enemy, the world of fallen men and that nature we inherited since the fall of man.

Therefore no man or woman can claim to be free from blame, even if we are sitting in a pew each week and do all the things good Christians know we should do.  Even the person who stand up front and instructs others to come to Christ, will need to adjust him or herself directly with God.  Here we include the people who write words of encouragement to the Lord´s flock in blogs, magazines and books.

In fact, if you want to find out one day that you are not actually a weed, we should take some time with our Lord each and every day to bring the question before Him.

We have been told by the Master Himself that those weeds have been sown and that they will grow together with the good seed until the harvest.

So let us take the correct point of view and not look to the one sitting next to me.  Resist the temptation to look to the left or the right.  We will only find reassurance on our own state, by coming to, and hearing the Masters voice personally.

Dear Jesus, we come to You.  We would like to come today and every day.  There is a place inside our hearts that needs to hear Your voice and Your verdict.  We know that there are weeds growing along with the good seed of the Master.  Please guard our hearts from all the devious tricks our evil nature would like to go along with to spoil Your chances of reaping all that You deserve.  Make this we pray, something extremely personal and not something we push off on some other person.

In Your name we pray,

Amen
