In reply Jesus said to them: ¨You ´re mistaken, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.¨ Matthew 22:29 (Reference Bible)

Matthew 22 verses 23 to 33 tells the story of Jesus being questioned by one of the divisions in the church of His day. Surely they were worshippers of God who were convinced of their view of the world and had their doctrines base on the Scriptures and their long heritage of devotion.
However pure their intentions were, Jesus showed them the short-sightedness of their thinking.
We today may enjoy standing in the fuller light of revelation, having the teachings and gospel of Christ coming and redeeming His people. Our traditions and customs of worship may be slightly grounded deeper inside our hearts as opposed to mere outward expressions done to appease the religious society in which we are found. But we should be careful not to judge and very watchful of the tendencies of our own hearts.
Jesus rebuked the unfortunately misguided souls by saying that they had failed to understand the sacred writings and the power of this being we call God.
How often these days do we all dispute lesser points and concepts which had their origins in the Holy Scriptures? We tend to flock towards like-minded individuals or denominational groups in the effort to strengthen our faith and brace ourselves against unbelief. We bolster our resolve and feel good about our interpretations of the will of God for us on earth.
It is important though for each of us in whatever walk of life we may be, to stop what we are doing and weigh the words of our Savior. Let us sit at His feet as little children and let His instruction heal and direct us toward the Father in all honesty.
What Jesus told to the Sadduccees we can use to help guide us closer to Him and the heart of the Almighty. Scriptures should always direct our attention upward. The words we read there should forever be making our concept of God bigger and more powerful. A view of life and death, of marriage or any other issue should never take power or intelligence away from Him.
We humans may struggle to imagine a reality of things which we cannot yet see. Angels flying around is just not something our earthly science is able to embrace even through all its hours of deep study. But we can lift up our impression of God and say that if He says something is so, than where our sight restrains us, faith in Him can hold us up. Our branch of religion may stretch to accept dead people living again, but giving God the credit for the ability to do that is something He is showing us is important.
Dear Jesus, sometimes we may not see where we have placed limits on You. Please show us where and how we are doing that so that we can find healing and turn from our ways. We would learn to give God all the credit for power and wisdom that we cannot yet see. Become as big and as important for us as You say You should be. Let You begin where our limitation holds us back and may the lifting up of our gaze bring glory and honor to Your name today.
Amen
