¨Concerning that day and the hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.¨ Matthew 24:36 (Reference Bible)
Jesus states this here and thereby the words are like written in stone. The text which comes previous to this one states that heaven and earth will pass away but not His words. Yet most times we hurry off to study the scriptures and we examine the times to see where we stand and if that day may be tomorrow.
Whole religious sects and great parts of others dedicate nearly all their efforts into proving their timing for the return of our Lord. What is the matter with us? Do we not see the beauty in the words of our Lord?
Jesus, the One we would know and love, the One we would follow to the ends of the earth and beyond, has given us the word as He knows we need it. His instruction is perfect as He is perfect. He directs all things to the Father and encourages us to do the same. We should take His lead and embrace all of His instruction knowing that out of wisdom and love, He gives us just what He wants for us.
This is beautiful, very beautiful. Our Jesus loves us and leads us where He knows where we need to go. Sad but true, only a few really care to take good note and listen carefully enough. What He is doing is asking us to look up. He knows we are curious about it, but what we do not know or do not see; He wants us to lift up to the Father.
Like little children we should have faith in our Father too. This shifting of the weight of knowing things and taking care of things should lie on our Father. The self-confident child who does not need to look up to his father, loses this offering. He thinks he knows it all and does not have to believe and trust his father for everything.
Jesus does tell us just what the Father wants us to know and He tells us things about what it will be like, but He repeats in verse 42, that we will not know when, but to keep ourselves ready. So instead of wasting time trying to figure out times and dates when our Savior tells us that those things are hidden from us, we should use this opportunity to obey and to trust.
Dear Jesus, You have come to us from the Father. You teach us what is vital for us to know. You lead us perfectly in Your footsteps and forever closer to the Lord. Help us to see and to know what a great blessing it is for us to lift up these things unto You. Teach us to be like small trusting children who are happy that their Father is taking care of them and does know all about what He is doing. Let us lift up to You and give credit to You for seeing the things we cannot and instructing us just as You know we need. If faith is a gift, then pour it out on us today so that we may lift up our eyes and know that the Father will come and He is right in doing it when He sees fit. Let our unknowing throw us further on You and be like an offering to God through faith.
Amen
