Be Smart Maidens

¨Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which too took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.  Five of them were wise, and five were foolish.¨  Matthew 25:1-2  (KJV)

There is an intelligence that is different than this world´s.  Here we weigh everything according to our needs and desires.  We say this is important for me or I should do this or that.  We use our experience or our education to help us make these decisions.  Some of us try to make the best decisions possible and others like to just wing it.

Then there is another intelligence that comes from above.  Way up there we have a being who is much wiser than us.  There exists a being who was able to plan all that we see and know to exist here on earth, plus all the other things that we cannot see or have yet to discover.  This being we call God.  He not only planned everything out of His superior intelligence but also supplies all that is needed to create and maintain all these things.

Now God has attempted to draw us to Himself so that we may be aware of Him and come to know Him personally.  This itself is what He calls intelligence.  We who call ourselves intelligent beings can actually travel down this path of knowledge and approach the source of all things, or we can choose to make little of Him and therefore shut the door to this source and fountain.

Jesus gives the story in the form of maidens.  He shows us easily how some were intelligent and others were foolish.  In our case foolishness is not in forgetting to think of buying something for our lamps, but in not taking serious the situation in which we are in.

We can go through our lives here on earth living however we choose.  Or we can try to prepare ourselves for an upcoming event.  Intelligence on our part would be in taking more serious the things of the wedding banquet on the other side of the door.  When the Bridegroom comes and those who are ready enter, only the ones who thought like that will accompany Him.

Each can choose what is more important for him or herself.  But it would be nice to think that you and I could be included in those of whom it is said that were smart.

Dear Lord, our intelligence will only take us so far.  Please increase our wisdom to the point where we see more important the things that take place inside where the celebration will begin.  Let us wisely choose to spend our time preparing to be recognized by You and our participation in the festivities to be desired by You the Bridegroom.  Help us to be so close to You now today, that You would not dream of celebrating without us when You come.

And may Your name and Your power and wisdom be glorified in all the universe!

Amen
