¨In that case, how would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must take place this way?¨ Matthew 26:54 (Reference Bible)
Jesus was confronted by a mob to take Him into custody. His companions were startled and afraid. Yet Jesus kept His composure. He had known this moment was coming and was already prepared for it. In fact He repeats in a couple short texts, the fact that these things that were happening had been written about a long time ago and therefore needed to happen.
God was working out His plan of salvation for His people. Everyone was playing the role prescribed for them. Jesus was teaching and opening all our eyes to the fact that God has things under control and has designed and planned the perfect outcome. Some things that happen are sad and tragic, yet somehow the Lord knows what is best and is working out His great plan.
If we believe less than this, we do not deserve to call ourselves Christians. We cannot claim to look up to an Almighty God. People hold many different beliefs and people place all kinds of limitations upon God. But He knows what He is doing and has never seen a situation which He cannot handle.
Therefore, when bad things happen, even to good people, we cannot say that it is terrible. Whatever the case, even at great loss to ourselves and loved ones, somehow it fits into His great plan. If we really care, then the matter lies in edging closer to the One who is designing and carrying out that plan.
We do not need to understand everything, but we should try to know the One who does. We do not need everything to always go the way we would want it to. But we should become extremely close to the One who is looking after our best interests. He loves us with a love which we cannot possibly fathom. He demonstrates to us that love all the time and has done so throughout the history of our race.
Dear Lord, we feel the pain and get frightened easily when things get tough. But if we let You open our eyes a little, perhaps we will see that You are working for our ultimate good. Please let us snuggle a little closer to You. Like small children let us take comfort, not in the removal of our sufferings but in the realization that You have things in Your hands. Thank You for loving us so and hold us close until our vision clears and we see Your mighty arm at work.
Amen
