And early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went outside and left for a lonely place, and there he began praying. Mark 1:35 (Reference Bible)
There are some wonderful times of day to pray to the Lord our God. But few of them can compare to those early hours when nobody is around. They are special times indeed, when you wake in the still dark hours and seek a moment alone with the Almighty.
It is good when we find it written that Jesus sought those moments too, that we stop a moment and let the idea sink beneath the shallow surface of our conscious. Here we have the very Son of God, the Beloved, upon who has been bestowed all power and glory. But we see Him, the One we would imitate, looking for and finding those precious moments with the Father.
If we are so inclined to seek for ourselves a deeper walk with God, it is essential that we fill up our lives with as many precious moments spent together like this. The entire bent of our soul should be directed towards acquiring more and more of those times of bonding. There should be no pull greater than our need to be with our Lord. We should know we are with Him and have many true encounters where our spirits unite and we share ourselves completely.
For those of us who do not have frequent moments alone with our God, all earnestness and urgency should be given to seek and to find it. If it has been a long time since you had a special moment of bonding, there is nothing more important to your eternal health than for you to do anything possible to have them. We should immediately stop whatever we are doing and make an attempt to place our hearts at His disposal. If we find no satisfactory response, then further and more sincere seeking of His presence should be given.
Jesus calls for us to love God and seek Him before all else. But how can we do this if we do not know Him personally. The only way any human can truly know another being, is to spend good quality time with that being. The rule stands in the spiritual realms and should not ever be overlooked. Good doctrine is worthless if the worshipper cares not whether he or she is spending those special moments reveling in the love and relationship which we share with our God.
Dear Jesus, we want to be like You. We want to be filled with the same Spirit which moved You to search out special moments with Your Father. Please assist our yearning hearts to find those precious encounters where we can be alone with You. Teach us how to pray, how to listen and how to embrace the time we share with You. As we go about our busy schedules, help us find ways and moments to direct ourselves completely to You. When we are there in the quite, even when we are surrounded by the frantic world around, show us how to revel in Your presence. As we taste the sweetness of time spent with You, increase within us a need for, and an overwhelming desire for more and more.
Amen
