Listen, Look!

So he began to teach them many things with illustrations and to say to them in his teaching: “Listen. Look! The sower went out to sow.”  Mark 4:2-3 (Reference Bible)

Jesus is getting ready to instruct us on some wonderful insights into what our God would have us know about Him, this world and what happens inside the hearts of men and women who come to learn of Him.  So He starts his teaching by calling attention to His words.  He says; “Listen!”  Our Savior wants us to open our ears and our hearts in a way that admits instruction.  This means everybody.  Many times we take the words of our Lord and say that we got that point already and therefore we do not listen for more pertinent instruction along that line.

But Jesus continues to urge us forward in an attitude and a manner which will allow us to take in just a little more of His truths as He tries to guide our hearts through a narrow door and along a narrow path.  He goes on to say; “Look!” Now He wants us to open the eyes of our souls and gaze into the mysteries of the spiritual kingdom.

Do you and I hear Him calling us to that?  Are we listening and looking for the revelation of the words of our Savior?  Or have we already done all the learning we think we need to do?  We have heard the story of the sower and the seeds so many times.  Maybe we have even instructed others on what it could mean to our eternal future.  But does this mean that we can shut our ears or our eyes to our Savior now?

Perhaps it is time that we take another look at our disposition to the gentile instruction of our Guide and Friend.  If we truly are responsive to His urgings, we will not hold back because we have already heard and understood this or that point of His teachings.  His words, like Him are infinitely higher and more than adequate to instruct us on many levels and at any given time.  Woe to the unfortunate if not well-intended brother or sister who holds back from further instruction merely because he or she has heard it before.

Dear Jesus, please give us one gift today.  Permit us to have a sense of urgency and curiosity towards that what You would have us to learn next.  Never let us reach a point where we are satisfied with what we have received of You or Your teachings.  There are still so many wonderful things You would show us if we are willing.  Don´t let us take any attitude which would limit our learning or Your joy in instructing us in Your ways.  Rather show us how to open the ears of our hearts and the eyes of our souls.  Enable us we pray to hear spiritual teaching and see Your deeper truths.  In all things let every word of Your mouth draw us ever closer to You and further into our God.  Should we have heard the word before, let it become even sweeter as You open new worlds of enlightenment and wonderful new understandings unto us!
