The How of the Seed

So he went on to say; “In this way the kingdom of God is just as when a man casts the seed upon the ground, and he sleeps at night and rises up by day, and the seed sprouts and grows tall, just how he does not know.”  Mark 4:26-27 (Reference Bible)

Jesus is back at His analogies of people, seeds, the kingdom of heaven, and the word of God in our hearts.  Perhaps we may grasp a little easier the more difficult lessons of the ways things run in a realm which lies outside our capabilities to imagine, if we consider some smaller miracles that we are more accustomed to.

Our Savior liked to use the seed because we take easily to this familiar wonder.  A person can easily imagine tossing it out over the ground in almost a carefree fashion, yet somehow the seeds find a way to let down root, find nourishment and grow from a seemingly lifeless grain, into a vibrant, fruit producing plant.  The planter need not have studied the intricacies science or chemistry to see a return for his investment of little effort.

We are not yet graduated doctors and celebrated researchers of the finer points of the spiritual realm or the kingdom of God.  Who has been to that celestial land and returned to us to make clear these complicated explanations of the differences between the two worlds?  Jesus did and He labored to help us make the jump from the familiar thinking to understanding some basics in that fabulous land we call Heaven.  Jesus worked hard to help us know a little of what it is like in a place where things do run directly under the direction of the King of Kings.  There, all things bow to, serve and bring glory to God the Father and His triumphant Son.

A person, who runs a blog, teaches or preaches God´s word, could work to bring men and women over to his own way of thinking.  But spiritual things are not to be directed at us, but to One infinitely greater.  Our best intentions can only be in lifting up the Divine and pointing others into looking in His direction.  Therefore we would use this moment to say unto ourselves as well, that when Jesus begins to instruct our hearts on the reality of His heavenly kingdom, we should bow to the knee and open our souls to the lesson at hand.

Dear Jesus, sometimes we feel like we have captured Your illustration and understood Your teaching on familiar subjects.  But please do not let our education stop there.  Take us by the hand and lead us on upwards into the mysteries of Your marvelous kingdom.  We want to be open to learning more on how things work there with You.  You have planted a seed within us.  Now let it take root.  Let it find nourishment and help it to grow.  Those who desire You more, enable them to grow healthier and stronger in Your miraculous Way.  Let that what is germinating within us awake an awareness of You and Your kingdom.  In that way we will be firmly grounded in You and may one day bear all the fruits of the Spirit that You have wanted to harvest there.

Amen
