Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.” John 9:39 (NIV)

A man has his eyes miraculously opened. He finally sees Jesus. The Saviour asks him if he believes in the Son of Man. The man willfully responds to Jesus and bows to worship Him. Jesus teaches us in the moment that He has come to us for just such a thing. He says it is so that blind people like this man can come to see. He also says that others will become blind. Is Christ referring to people who have a physical problem with their earthly eyes? Or could we all agree that Jesus is talking about people perceiving or not perceiving God? Could it be that some people only think they know all there is to know about God? Could they be claiming faith in something less than an amazing Being we can know and come into contact with?
If we look around us what do we see? What is the spiritual scene of today? What is going on in our religious circle? Do we find people like this man who have come into direct contact with the Lord? Are we seeing people bowing before Jesus? Are they interrupting their busy lives to come close to Him? Or do we find people filling the expected rolls for them? Do people just reside to following a routine or a way of life? Do we see even good Christians standing inexorably to an educated decision they made with their minds? Or are people moved by an unexplainably strong and intelligent Force which is flooding their hearts? Are they quietly shaking as they wrestle through their prayers? Are they deliberately seeking a place to be with their Lord? Are they refusing higher positions because of their love and charity for those in need around them? Do they do this because that is what they saw their dear Savior´s do?
More important than what is happening in our church, our community or even the world we live in, what do we see in us? What is going on deep within our souls? Have we stopped to consider? What do our spiritual senses tell us of our personal standing with Him? Can we see Him shining brightly before us? Do we hear His sweet voice? Are His words coming alive before our very eyes? When we close our earthly eyes, can we sense His immediate Presence? Can we feel the warmth of His embrace? Can we see where and how He is moving in and all around us? Can we see His love filling us and flowing out to all those we come into contact with? Is the throne of God looming into view? Do we find ourselves more focused on Heaven than this lowly path we trod down here? Do we see Jesus as the closest friend we have? Do we look to Him far before we seek the approval of others? What do we see when we stop to look? Do we see? Or are we choosing not to see?
Dear Jesus, we read of a man whose eyes were opened. You say this is one of the reasons You came. We ask to be one of those whose eyes are opened now. Please perform a miracle in us! Open our eyes to see You and know You! Open our eyes to follow Your every word! Open our eyes to see Your love flow through us! Open us to see Heavenly goals set and accomplished in our hearts! Open the eyes of our soul to see how close we have come to God! Open us to look for nothing short of being truly and actually with You every moment of every day! Help us to see like this we pray!
Amen
