They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the King of Israel!” John 12:13 (NIV)
They hear of Him. They know He is coming. People start getting excited. People do what they can to prepare Him away. They get ready to meet Him. Song and praise is on their lips. But what do they shout? “Hosanna!” “Blessed Is He!” “Blessed Is He Who comes in the name of the Lord!” Why do they shout that? Do they know? Do we?
Prophecy foretells that we too are preparing to meet Him. Have we heard? Some of us know deep within our hearts that Jesus is surely coming. Are we getting excited? Can we detect a song of praise on our lips? Is there welling up within us an uncontrollable urge to shout? Do we find our soul screaming inside of us “Hosanna?” What is it that we can herald? What can we say? What word of praise will we give? Why will we tell others of our jubilee? Is it because our King is coming? Is it because Christ is approaching us? Is it because the One Who bears the name of the Lord is nearing us? Is it because we are going to meet the One God sends to us? Is this why we are soaring in our souls? Is this what we cannot contain? Is this why we feel like shouting?
So often we get lost in what we should be doing. So many times we worry about getting our religion right. So much precious time is lost on our efforts. So many wasted words and wasted moments fall to our frivolous pursuits. There is much we can know. There will always be more that we don´t know. But Someone super special is approaching. All the while we are complicating our faith, Jesus is drawing nearer.
Would it be nice to drop all our frantic business? Would it be nice to give way to our excitement? Could it be a blessing to us to turn from whatever we are doing? Could we leave our routines and run to find some palm branches? Could we lose ourselves in our preparation? Could we hurry to where we will meet Him? Could we let nothing stand in our way as we just need to be sure we see Him? Could we fill our lungs with songs of salvation? Could we shout out our love and adoration? Could we get this worked up because He Is Who He Is? Could we celebrate today that we are going to meet the King? Are we happy that He is coming? Is the reason we are excited because He Is the Blessed Who Comes in the name of the Lord?
Dear Jesus, Thank You for coming unto us! Thank You for becoming our all! Thank You for being our Teacher, our Redeemer, our Shepherd, our Friend and our Guide! Thank You for coming to us from the Lord! Thank You for Your sacrifice! Thank You for caring! So many gifts You have already given us! But we want to thank You again for being the One Who comes to us in the name of the Lord! Blessed are You! Fill us and thrill us today with an uncontrollable urge to celebrate that we too are coming to meet You! Let this be what gives our hearts a reason to sing and shout right now!
Amen
