Jesus Works For God

Jesus Works For God

‘For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it.’  John 12:49 (NIV)

Far above and beyond the loftiest thoughts of man, lie the wonders and the work of God.  Since the dawn of creation, God in Heaven has not stopped working on the plans He has made.  With patience only He has, with foresight and intelligence, He brings all the countless variables all together.  He perfectly executes His intricate plans as we near the completion of what it is that He wills.  Stars and constellation revolve in clockwork perfection each held in motion and exactly calculated position.  Here on our tiny planet there is a profusion of amazing forms of life.  All is sustained and God attends to His business with care and dedication.  Were He to remove His life-giving Presence, what would we have to keep this spirit of life alight and running in order?  Would darkness and chaos quickly overtake all that we see?  Would all the natural laws we trust lose their power too?  What hope could we have?

Into the distance we placed between ourselves and God, steps Jesus.  Bridging the gap where no man could, Christ stands to fill this space and unite us once again.  But Jesus is not just a person like we are.  He was born into this world.  But it is not this planet that brings Him to us.  He comes to us directly from the Presence of God.  He comes to us from God Himself.  He comes with the same perfect purpose as the One Who sends Him!  He comes to us to do the will of the Father.  He comes to see the work of God carried out with us here.  Can we let the weight of that mission sink in for a moment?

What is it that we have learned about the will of God?  What has He been working on throughout the history of our race?  Is it possible that we play a significant role in that plan?  Even if we don´t deserve it, has God made many attempt to tell us He loves us?  Has He always and is He always moving to demonstrate that love to us?  How far is God willing to go to show us the size of His love to His ungrateful creation?  Are we the very children He created to bring Him company and pleasure?  Are we the ones who far too often deliberately choose to stand off on our own?  Is God inviting His children through each of the generations to approach Him and enter a loving relationship with Him?  Is it us, who need more than a little help?

Jesus tells us flat out that this is His job.  He tells us that we choose to be blind to what God is up to and what He is all about.  He tells us that if we listen to Him, He can teach us.  We are not the best listeners.  We never have been.  Some may try for a time.  But soon we get distracted and only see our world again.  But God sends us His Son.  Jesus comes and showed us where we should be looking.  For those who care, God could finally have what He planned on having.  He could finally have a people who live to be with Him!  He could have us!  And Jesus works for God!  What could we possibly consider that is sweeter than the knowledge of Him and His work in us?

Dear Jesus, thank You for all that You did, You do, and may still do for us!  Thank You for setting Yourself to do the work the Father gives You!  We owe You!  We cannot even fathom how much!  But it helps to consider You, Your life, Your teachings, Your sacrifice and Your working in and around us!  It endears us to You!  Show us how to return Your love.  Take us by the hand and let us work along with You to give God what He has always wanted!  Let us be His today!  Take us into His open arms!  Take us forever!

Amen
