Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. 2nd Corinthians 7:1 NIV
There once was a couple young people that met through their church community. They knelt down to pray together. Their intentions were pure even though they still needed to remove many worldly things from the center of their hearts. So they asked God to help them return to Him. They prayed in earnest. But the things they asked for were the more visible aspects of Christianity. Do we know what contaminates our bodies and spirits?
We typically focus on the things we can see. We come to Christianity and think that we do well by fixing our living habits and morals. We think that we are on the right track when we see improvement. We can find texts that bolster our resolve and congratulate us on our efforts. We can even go through our lives thinking that we have bettered our position with God and eternity through the physical and mental changes we make in our lives. But we get no closer to the Lord if changes are not made in our soul. Our hearts need to meet our Savior and spend time with Him. We must seek to grow an intimate bond with Christ. If not, we remain contaminated. Shall we pray for help in purifying everything that could keep us from perfecting our walk with Jesus in spirit today?
Dear Jesus,
Until the day You bring us into the Presence of the Father, let us intentionally seek to walk each moment with You, we pray!
Amen
