In a world gone mad with such diversity and possibility, the word peace comes to us as strange and foreign. It is a word we use to describe something few of us ever truly feel.
Peace is a word we try to use to say that countries or people are not at war with one another. But, it hardly describes anything more than a picture of how we would like to imagine the situation. They may be getting along well enough for the moment. Yet each one most surely has their own interests at heart.
It might be curious or amusing how we use the word peace, except when we turn the word towards God. Bringing the Almighty into the picture lets peace fulfill its promise of hope. That is because we tie the word peace to the God of all possibilities. We take it away from the grip of this world spinning out of control. We lift it into heavenly realms so the word can describe things as they should be. There, within the capable hands of the Almighty God, nothing is out of control. We can heave a huge sigh of relief. Rest can come to the restless. Hope comes to the hopeless. Peace comes to those who know no peace, but only when God presides over His creation!
So, if we would like to know what peace is today, forget trying to look around at our frantic world. Let us lift our eyes above the heavens! Let us focus our gaze on God. Ask Him to show us what peace will mean when we know our King has it all under control!
