What Do I Wait For?

Now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in you. Psalm 39:7

Our days are numbered. Yet we all chase after a world of desires. Each one has something, or a lot of things, to run after. Some want success. Some want fame. Some set their sights higher, and others make them lower. For most, the question is not what to go after. It is what to go after next.

If we remember that our days are short, it might help us get the important ones right. Chasing all the small things we make so important today will not reward us in the end. Not if we don´t arrive somewhere. We need a bigger goal than just gaining this treat and moving on to a better one. We can shoot straight for the Ultimate Prize.

The Bible may be losing the trust of the majority. But it speaks of an Eternal Goal. It tells us that we can come to know and walk with the Maker of Our Universe. We can make it into the presence of the Almighty. The price? It will cost us everything we got. We will have to choose it over all the lesser desires.

We know that few will take the narrow road. It is a lonely one. The world around us can have more visible treasures and more immediate pleasures. Yet their successes will never match our tiniest gains. Each moment spent in the presence of the Divine will confirm our choice. The thrill of coming breathless before the throne of glory is a realization of a lifetime. All the former joys pale in an instant. We find a love and companionship that surpasses all else in our galaxy.

So, let us ask ourselves what it is that we hope for. Then let us pray that we found something truly worth the wait!
