Open Ears

Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire. You have opened my ears. You have not required burnt offering and sin offering. Psalm 40:6

The young, confident Christian bolsters their faith. Then they ask God for their fruit from the Spirit. Galatians 5 spells out some of this fruit. But it does not mention one that the Psalmist held close to his heart. It is a gift that not everyone knows they should be seeking. That gift is to have our ears opened.

An aging grandmother went to the place where she got her hearing aids. They were not working for her. But after only a quick check, she learned that it was not her devices that were malfunctioning. She needed to have her ears unblocked. After a simple cleaning, she could use her hearing aids and join in conversation again.

Christians need to have our ears opened too. We need to have our inner pathways free to hear guidance from the Lord. The Holy Spirit moves in power. His still, small voice can boom in our ears when we are open toward His whisper. We can learn to become experts in hearing His counsel and His encouragement.

One of our Savior´s favorite sayings was, He who has ears, let them hear!

Give us ears that hear from You, dear Lord! And open them wide, we pray!

Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire. You have opened my ears. You have not required burnt offering and sin offering.  Psalm 40:6 (WEB)
