Who Considers The Poor

Blessed is he who considers the poor. Yahweh will deliver him in the day of evil. Psalm 41:1

We are in a hurry. It is not the time we want someone to ask us for money. But there it is. A hand stretches out. “Should I fumble around for change in my pocket?” we wonder. The moment always seems to come at the wrong time. Our minds race to justify our thoughts, feelings, and actions that immediately follow. If we are Christians or have a heart, we sense an obligation to help. Or do we?

Many times, we turn to our churches or to our mentors in life for our instruction. But that is not the first or best place to go if we want to get our hearts straightened out. We have a Teacher. His name is Jesus. He came to us from above. He went further than anyone could to become our Way. If we can step closer to Him, we will know where to place each step.

So, the next time that hand stretches toward us, let us immediately go to Christ. Before we turn anywhere else, let us go straight to the Lord. Open our hearts to the Spirit, and He will show us how to help. Chances are that the one who needed something was not the outstretched hand. It was us. We need to keep our hearts open to those around us. But more than that, we should have our souls in tune with God´s.

Blessed is he who considers the poor. Yahweh will deliver him in the day of evil.  Psalm 41:1 (WEB)
