A Very Present Help

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

Have we ever had one of those days? All havoc breaks loose, and we watch our world crumble around us. Our dreams crash, and our hopes fail us. It is in times like those that we need help. Often we look to family or friends. We need to know someone cares. Someone has to provide some assistance in our time of need. We all do it. But, it is not the best response. At least, not for the God-fearing children who wear His name.

Christians should be the first ones to turn to God. It should be a reflex action for us. We sense some new thought or feeling, and go directly to our Lord. Those reflex actions demonstrate that our beliefs run deeper than our brains. We didn´t just find some ideology we can appreciate and claim as ours. We go a little further to put it into practice.

This little practice of going to God for everything we experience brings Him onto the scene. God stops being some far-off personality that pleases us to imagine is there. Instead, we allow Him to share our here and now. He is not some childish Santa-Clause-type wish. By going to Him often, God is welcome to act and enter each of our daily experiences.

God can and will move in the life of any believer who seeks to be with Him. At least He will, to those who go far enough and let Him be here with us. Unfortunately, though, in the times in which we live, few of us take our faith that far.

Accept the challenge and the dare. Let us make more of our faith. Let us bring God into our reality and let Him take care of all that we face today.
