Be Still, And Know That He Is God

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

It is so widely accepted in Christian circles. We often overlook it. But getting still is more vital to our faith than we can imagine.

So let us imagine for a moment. Let us close our eyes and imagine that God is here right now! With our eyelids squeezed tight, let us shut out the sights of this pressing world around us. Perhaps now we can sense His presence.

No? Did we try? Did we give it our best effort and still not feel anything of the overwhelming presence of God? What then? Shall we stop trying? Should we give up after our half-hearted and twenty seconds of effort?

The Christians and founders of our faith that we look up to all knew a secret that we have forgotten today. They recognized how important it was to step out of the pace of the world and find time to be with God. Now we race everywhere at the same pace as our busy societies and expect God to be with us. We are no longer willing to go very far to be with Him.

Christ took time. He found moments to steal away. He got alone to be with The Father. We could do the same. It may be a lost art. But it is one that we must awaken within us. That is if we want to spend forever with Him!
