What Sustains Our Souls

Behold, God is my helper. The Lord is the one who sustains my soul. Psalm 54:4

The Pharisees of Jesus´s day have resurfaced. They are wearing new clothes now and blend into our congregations. But do not be fooled. They are just as determined to wield their Scriptures to their own understandings. They will make the Bible say what they want it to say. It will be the weapon they use to beat over the heads of innocent people.

Have we ever experienced it? Have we met with some well-intended soul hell-bent on defending their interpretations? It will surprise us to find them seated right at the table of the Lord. They are individuals who would insult and attack others who don´t believe as they do. Yet it still happens today. When will Christians learn that the love of Christ should radiate from us too?

Those of us who will not check ourselves often are the ones who could be acting as Pharisees. We could commit the same crimes as those who persecuted the very people Jesus came to save. Before we run off to fight the Lord´s battles for Him, let us stop to pray. Let us ask the Lord to come visit our hearts. When His Spirit fills us, moves us, and leads us, then we will know who it is that sustains us. Is it us? Or is it the Spirit of God?

Behold, God is my helper. The Lord is the one who sustains my soul.  Psalm 54:4 (WEB)
