Revive Us, Lord!

Won’t you revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? Psalm 85:6

We pray for revival. We realize that our spiritual hunger does not burn hot enough. So we cry out to God. We ask Him to pour out revival upon us. Maybe we even wait for a new great preacher or revivalist to generate the spark in our congregation. It may or may not come. But do we know why?

God has already sent out countless messengers. He has poured out His Spirit from on High. He has performed miracles to perfusion. And what have we done with it? We let our hearts grow cold. If we want to see a spark, there is much that we can do to prepare for it. But sitting back passively waiting is not what will get any fire burning.

Even the tone of our prayers could make or break it, in our spiritual condition. Pray not in wishy-washy, halfhearted prayers. Demand urgency on the part of our souls. It will get us much further. Then, if we want our hearts to turn, we must choose it. We cannot hold on to our former ways. We must give our hearts, souls, and everything else we can. We need to exchange the desires of our lives for chasing after God. We can start seeking Him before all else. Pray that the Lord will see our feeble efforts. If He does, the revival will have already begun for us. Where it leads could be divine and eternally far-reaching.
