Make A Joyful Noise

Make a joyful noise to Yahweh, all the earth! Burst out and sing for joy, yes, sing praises! Psalm 98:4

After the fright and terror that a mortal soul may feel in the presence of the Divine, the adrenalin kicks in. A spiritual rush follows an encounter with God that leaves any other rush minute. The soul floats high into the realms where angels soar. It brings the strongest desire to burst into song.

Not only meeting God gives us this burning need to sing. Learning something new of His character, love, or grace can also place the melodies into our hearts. If we hear or read of some wonder the Lord has performed, we will surely recognize this tendency. We will want to make a joyful noise. Praise and adoration well up, and singing is the perfect way to let our God know how He has moved us.

It is one of the sweetest parts of gathering with other Christians. We get the opportunity to sing. The good old hymns can purify our motives and leave us misty-eyed, gazing with heart and soul at our God. Some newer songs seem to make more of me or I. It could seem to turn our worship around to center on us. But if we are careful, even those can bring us a chance to engage with the Spirit and approach Him to turn us around. Whatever the case, let us strive for the kind of walk with God that continually puts songs in our hearts and mouths.
