Everyone has experienced it. We all go through times of aching deep within our souls. An emptiness fills us and threatens to do us in. It is painful. Although the pain is not physical, it can be so excruciating that it feels like it is. We don´t know what to do with ourselves or our lives. It can make us despair. The effort of carrying on may seem too much to bear. Psychologists and counselors will give us endless advice, but their tricks hardly heal all that weighs us down. What on earth can be done?
Within our question, we may start to see an answer. If we look only at our earth, we will be limited. If we could look above it, things can be different. Gaze higher than our world, and we can find something of infinite value. We will discover caring eyes gazing back at us.
Our pains and problems are not just physical. They are grounded in our souls. That is much deeper and more significant than the physical or psychological body we are composed of. The soul is the mysterious spirit of life that burns within and feeds the rest of us. So, if we ache and long for something heavily inside, let our souls turn to the Lord. He longs for us. When our souls can get together, the aching will vanish. We will have found what we longed for. That embrace will never need to end.
