God Preserves the Simple

Yahweh preserves the simple. I was brought low, and he saved me. Psalm 116:6

There is a certain truth about God. It is one that we should be acutely aware of. He has a soft spot in His heart for the lowly. The Scriptures hold no encouragement for the high and mighty. Individuals who are puffed up and confident are too sure of themselves. But His great heart goes out to the lost, the oppressed, the hurting, and the needy. Those who desire to grow close to Him will want to cultivate these qualities. And avoid their opposites.

Unfortunately, modern Christianity has transformed. We no longer like to think of ourselves as lost sheep. No, we prefer to be the chosen, the select, the receivers of great inheritance. And we congratulate each other for accepting these nametags. We no longer stoop to sinners, the wayward, or the sick. Where did we lose sight of the heart of God?

The eyes of the Lord still search our current horizons. He looks for the humbled. The Savior of the World will still enter in when He finds hearts that hurt enough to let Him in. We could start with sermons like the Beatitudes. (Luke 6, Matthew 5) There is still time for us to get to where God can reach us again. If we can turn far enough from ourselves and the ways of our world, the Spirit can become vital again. We can go deep and far in our search for our Savior. What a day that will be when we finally make it into those mighty arms we have needed for so long!
