God not only sees every step we take, but He knows our motives for each one. Even within the community of God-fearing believers, some walk as if God doesn´t weigh what is in our hearts. It is as if we could hide our motives from the Lord if only we can manage not to consider what we are doing. For example, Christ says we should deny ourselves, take up our cross, and step in behind Him. But we prefer to step where we want to and get to choose how we are walking. So we ease our consciences. We do not question where we stand. We brush past the subject before it exposes us.
We can distract ourselves for a time without ever having to stop and wonder if we are as close to the Lord as we should be. But, sooner or later, we should. The earlier we slow ourselves down, the quicker we realize our treason.
Every tear we cry falls into the hand of God. Effortlessly, He catches each one. He knows if our tears spring from the pain of finding we are far from Him. And He knows when we are sniffling over not getting what we want. Let us stop and ask the Lord to consider our hearts with us. Let us ask to have our souls examined. If God can come in and weigh our hearts with us, He will heal us of our insincerity. We can be His again. And He can be our Lord of All.
It is better to take refuge in Yahweh, than to put confidence in man. Psalm 118:8 (WEB)
