A People Near God

He has lifted up the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints, even of the children of Israel, a people near to him. Praise Yah! Psalm 148:14

The people of God, who are they? When we stop to consider, the temptation is to think of a denominational group. We might say that they are a certain standard of professed believers. They are the ones who got the doctrines right or taken their studies of God further. Looking into the distant past, we could even say they were people from a specific nation or place. But to let our minds go down those roads would be a mistake.

God has His people. He knows them, and they know Him. It is not a cozy, catchy thing to say. These precious souls earned their right to His favor. They heard of God and stepped out of their comfortable places, nations, standards, and even from behind their denominations. They went where God and them could be together. They wanted to be near Him in their hearts.

We have heard. Whoever, or wherever we are, if we are reading these words, something spiritual has begun. The voice of God booms mightily or way too softy. We will strain to hear, or we will brush Him off. We can seek to draw near or turn back to all those other things. The saints of God are those who choose Him. These are the ones He chooses as well. They (in all hope, we) are the ones who will have nothing less than being near our God. Always!

He has lifted up the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints, even of the children of Israel, a people near to him. Praise Yah!   Psalm 148:14
