Sing to God a New Song

1. Praise Yahweh! Sing to Yahweh a new song, his praise in the assembly of the saints. 2. Let Israel rejoice in him who made them. Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. Psalm 149:1-2

The cry goes out. It has stood for many generations. It says to sing a new song unto the Lord. It calls for voices to lift in praise. Our God is the God of Wonder! Fill us to overflowing – all who turn to Him! But why a new song?

We may find a few texts that outright say it. But the entire bent of the Scriptures encourages us to pursue God. The people of faith have their focus set on the Lord. They may glance back. They can study the past, but that will only be to guide them further forward. What happened long ago serves to instruct us how to proceed from here. We will come unto the Father with the help of the Son. But it will never be through standing still.

So, if we aspire to praise the Lord with all the angelic hosts one day, the direction is clear. We will take our steps nearer God each day. We will follow. We will shoulder whatever weight they will heap on our crosses. Our strength will come from the rising hope within. Our goal is to sing the new songs of praise to our Savior. Let us reach new ground with Him each day. Give us our new songs, dear Lord, we pray!
