Loss

Loss threatens to overcome us. But clinging to the presence of God brings all that is good together again in Him.

The loss of a loved one is never easy. It forces you to wonder what all this is for. It makes you question why we should plod along when nothing makes sense. Depression is real. It is a very dark disease. It is crushing. With the weight of the world suffocating us, we have two choices. We can look at our situation with our earthly eyes. Or, we could draw near God and ask to see things in the light of eternal grace.

God is good. It is human nature to accuse God of injustice and try to blame Him for our pain. But His righteousness remains. The deceiver would twist things so that the Lord doesn´t look so good and he doesn´t look so bad. But God has never rested in His attempt to bring souls out of our anguish and into the safety of His embrace.

We can´t see why bad things must happen. But we do know that all that is good finds itself in God. Think of it all as a giant pool of goodness. Every drop of beauty, kindness, and generosity comes to unity in God. So, let the believer fill their heart with hope. Set our hearts on the goodness of God. Hold tight to goodness while the dark waves press us down. Morning comes. If we are found clinging to God, all that is good will forever be with us.

Dear Lord, Your children are suffering. Please send us awareness of Your presence and goodness. Lift our hearts in hope as we look to You. Send Your Spirit to comfort us. Wrap us in the embrace of the Divine where pain and threats cannot hurt us. Let love triumph. And help us find all that is good in You, we pray. Amen

He who seeks his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.  Matthew 10:39 (WEB)

24. Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. 25. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it. 26. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life? Matthew 16:24-26 (WEB)
