Testing the Spirits

Testing the spirits should be understood as a direct call to look for the Lord in everything.

Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1 (WEB)

When we hear of testing the spirits to see if we are on the right track, it comes to us as a call to action. But there are a million ways to run with that call. The Spirit of God is trying to lead us unto Him. But just as surely, the world and darker forces will leap at the chance to channel us away from the Lord. So, we must choose the right path to get close to Him.

Who we listen to is a major determining factor in where we will end up. If we take our question to any other source than the Lord first, we lessen our chances of coming to Him. It is also much more difficult to follow Him if we run off to follow someone else. So, let´s humble ourselves and seek the heart of the Lord in all things first.

Dear Lord, please direct our hearts to You before we open them to anything else. By that, we mean we would like to get really used to running to You. Once we are near You and in Your presence, You will be able to lead us. Give us this burden—that we must know Your heart at all times. We pray. Amen

Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts.  Psalm 139:23 (WEB)

8‘. These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9. And they worship me in vain, teaching as doctrine rules made by men.’”  Matthew 15:8-9 (WEB)
