Self or God

Our world these days bows only to the god of self. Pray that we find our Savior and that He saves us from ourselves.

We have come to the point where our little god self is what everything must bow to. We are entitled to our opinions. They are what matters. We should have everything we want. Even our flaws are to be tolerated. But this way of thinking is worldly. And, it is wrong. It goes contrary to the teachings of Christ and the Scriptures.

Self may seem harmless enough. So we may go along with our times. Everyone is telling us how we deserve this and that. We owe it to ourselves. Our opinions are important. Well, Christ called for hearts that were willing to lay down their rights on earth. His call was for followers willing to hoist their own crosses and follow Him. Our path would lead to death to our times, world, and earthly ways. The Savior calls us to live for Someone else.

Let us pray for souls that will listen to the Spirit. Ask that we seek a different goal than that of our day. While the world lifts self up, let us crucify ours. Let the cross do its terrible yet necessary work. Let us live for God and not for ourselves.

Dear Lord, our times promote self as the most important thing in our lives. But let us check where our loyalties lie. We have heard You call us to follow You. With You as our prize, we come. We want to live for You, and not self. So please, help us through these confusing times, we pray. Amen

1. But know this: that in the last days, grievous times will come. 2. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3. without natural affection, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, not lovers of good, 4. traitors, headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 2 Timothy 3:1-4 (WEB)

23. He said to all, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. 24. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever will lose his life for my sake will save it.  Luke 9:23-24 (WEB)Click here to read another article on what the bible says about love of self.
