Satisfied With Being Right

There is a deadly snare in that pleasing feeling we are right. It could keep us from needing the One who is.

Christians are people who have seen a light. They heard of the joys and privileges of looking to God, so they did. But it is not what we know that will save us. It is WHO we know that will.

Once we have convinced ourselves, we often study further into Christian truths. We reinforce our initial understanding. We strengthen our faith in what we believe. But faith in God and faith in our abilities to decipher are completely different things. One rests on the presence and power of God. The other rests on our own capabilities.

It is a sly trick, deliberately placed in the Christian´s path. But we all run the risk of clinging to our deductions instead of using them to gain an encounter with the Lord. Let us pray that we detect our secret love of being right. Then, let us move past it and into a blissful walk with our Savior.

Dear Lord, move us to come. Draw us closer than we have ever been before. Turn our walk into an intimate affair that drives everything else in our lives. We know we love to stand on the truths we believe in. But let every truth throw us further into our engagement with You. Otherwise, we might trust ourselves and miss out on needing Your presence each day. Thank You for being here with us. Amen
