To Have The Holy Spirit

We often hear someone wielding the name of the Holy Spirit as if they are experts on the subject. But the Spirit of God is not a subject to speculate over. The presence of God´s Spirit with us is an essential qualification for every true believer. No declaration of faith and no interpretation of the text can be compared. Only a powerful, warm glow of His presence on the person who has sought to be with God will do.

Even an eloquent sermon on the Holy Spirit will not usher us into the light of His presence. Those who manage to grow that close to God have all had to humble themselves. Down on bended knees or pressed hard against the floor is where the real work gets done. Broken hearts and broken souls get there long before the proud or arrogant. It is an art that is almost entirely lost in our times. Yet we still need to seek the Spirit of the Lord with us today.

Dear Lord, pour out from on high Your Spirit again. Find on earth a few hearts open enough to receive You. Strike us with such conviction that we set ourselves to searching. Give us an empty and hungry heart that aches to be filled with You. Never let us rest if we are not experiencing Your powerful presence. We pray. Amen

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if any man doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.  Romans 8:9 (WEB)

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God.  Romans 8:14
