Far too often, we waste time lamenting our failures. That we were once so far from God hurts. And the weight of our past sins throws us upon our Savior. This sentiment is helpful in that it can drive us to seek Him. But it quickly changes into a trap that could keep us from a genuine approach. It can hog our attention and make us the focus of our attention. That steals the benefit of Christ´s sacrifice. We may have left our sin, but we keep it with us instead of moving past and on into a celebrated walk with our Lord.
A faint remembrance of our failures can intensify our determination. It can help us focus on seeking Christ´s presence at all times. The point is not to dwell too much on it. Where we were is what is least important. Where we are right now in our walk with God leaps into our utmost concern. Each one of us could be walking closer to Christ. We could all have more of the Holy Spirit filling us and leading our steps. Making the most of our moment now with God becomes our supreme concern. With our eyes on Him today, tomorrow´s possibilities grow into infinity.
Dear Lord, what we are today is what concerns us. Thank You for forgiving us and saving us from what we once were. But show us the weight of today. Rather than living in the past, give us a burden to make the most of our time with You. Give us a future perfection to drive ourselves to. But don´t let us waste a single moment of our time with You. Help us cultivate this relationship with You until it consumes us, heals, and changes us for good. In Your name we pray. Amen
