There are many wonderful sounds that fall on our listening ears. But none of them can compare to the sweetest of them all. The voice of the Spirit of God is the most beautiful and thrilling sound available to us. It begins as a hardly detectable noise. Not everyone will listen for it. Yet the Lord´s whispers still boom in the ears of those who care to hear them. We could be among them.
To count ourselves among the blessed few, something must be done. Humans are usually content to live out their lives hearing only our world´s familiar sounds. Yet God, in His wisdom and care, designed us to detect His voice. Or rather, He provides the capability to those who prove interested in knowing Him. Learning to hear God speak His instructions may take time and effort. But hearing His encouraging voice is something we can cultivate.
Our experience may start as weak as hardly detecting notions. Yet if we persist, in no time, the whispers can grow in clarity and audibility. Soon, the most thrilling relationship will build out of what God conveys to us. He guides. He instructs. He encourages. And He woos us unto Him. Our Father in Heaven loves us immensely. If we love Him back, there is no other voice in the world that we would rather hear!
Dear Lord, You encourage us to ask in Your name. What we want is more of You. We would like to get increasingly better at hearing Your voice. Make us experts at detecting Your whispers to us. Let us feed from nothing less; we pray. Amen
