Where Faith is Genuine

Where faith is genuine, any warning or encouragement drives us to edge closer in to God.

When we hear anything about God or faith in Him we can improve from it or not. Every sermon, song, or text could drive us to step closer to our Lord in Spirit. Our reaction to the stimulation demonstrates where our hearts lie. When our hearts are truly with God, we run first to Him. When too much of the world has crept in, we fall back on ourselves. We trust our knowledge, our conclusions, and our opinions. No step closer to God is sought.

It may sound harmless enough to carry on walking in our ways. But the Christian is called to another kind of walk. Our path from now on is onward and upward. We have set our souls on ending up at the feet of God. We would enter the presence of the Father. We will worship Him there. So, whether the message we hear is misleading or helpful, it will send us seeking our Savior. We must learn from Him what He has to share with us.

So pilgrims, don´t get defensive when we hear an opinion contrary to ours. Take what we get, and go to God. Say a prayer. Resist the urge to attack. Who knows? Maybe the Spirit brought this strange new thought to us to see where we go with it. So bring it back to Him. Let every notion, whatever it is, make us need our Lord and seek Him more.

Dear Lord, let us get used to walking with You. Help us resist the urge to react until we have brought You into our moment. Teach us to bring everything to You. Our fellow Christians and enemies alike will say things we disagree with. But help us come to You to check what can be gained in our faith before we attack or defend. Thanks for giving us cause to seek You more. Amen

Proverbs 3:5-6  ESV / Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Philippians 4:6-7  ESV / Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

James 1:19-20  ESV / Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

Psalm 46:10  ESV / “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

James 3:13-18  ESV / Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere
