Seeking the Living Among the Dead

Luke 24:1-53  ESV / …While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?

At some point in our religious history, we started doing something and keep doing it today. When we talk of God, we go into depth with things of the past. We sometimes bring up the future. But the only thing we dig into about the present is to debate our conduct. If we did not have a living God, right here, behind an invisible veil, this behavior would be okay. Yet this is the case. We ignore God these days. Or, at least, fail to seek His presence in our day.

The Holy Bible stands as a witness to God. Its faithful work is to try to lift man´s understanding of ourselves and the universe that houses us. But the hero of our story is not us. We play a small part in a much bigger picture. And, that story is being played out, scene by tragic scene. The high point in God´s story of redemption is when someone breaks out of the norm. This blessed believer stops what they are doing and looks up. Our wondering gaze rests on the God who designed it and sustains it all.

These precious few realize something that the rest fail to recognize. God is here right now. He has never left us or forsaken us. When we fail to see His hand at work or sense His presence, our eyes and hearts deceive us. To us, religion should be our way of embracing that presence. Let us pray that some of us stop what we are doing. Let us drop everything and seek the Spirit of the Lord. Do nothing today unless that effort gains us access to our Savior. Seek the Living God! It´s now or never!

Dear Lord, we turn to You. But don´t let that stop with words. Help us see it through. We want to approach You, heart and soul in hand. As we come, quicken our souls. Give us glimpses of Your presence. Heighten our awareness until we find You here with us. Do not let us carry on walking without You in our day. Make us true children after Your heart, we pray. Amen
