What We Wish For With God

Hunger and Thirst! Strive for nothing less than the presence of God! Here, now, and always!

Two brothers kneeled down to say bedtime prayers together. There was hardly any difference in the words they whispered. Yet God heard much more. They both prayed for Him to be with them but the difference was in how. One asked for the blessings that God could bring. The other also asked for gifts. But this young seeker was after more than a new bike, ball, or toy. Within the words that child innocently spoke was a hunger to know the One he was praying to. The real gift to be had was that his God would be there. Do we pray? If so, then what is it that we want from our prayer?

The children grew up. Their lives took them in different directions. One went further into the world. He had the blessings he sought. The other had to struggle more to make ends meet. But he also received what his heart desired. He found a walk with God that sustained him. This man knew desire. But the desire that wins us most brings us nearer to the Lord.

Without desire, none of us will get very much of God. The giver is generous. But be careful what we wish for. If we want more awareness of God´s presence, we can have it. If we want little, we will have that as well.

Dear Lord, let the world chase the things of the world. But give us, who care, a stronger desire for You. Be the one thing we must have. Let us make You the single most important element of our day and lives. Reward the true desire of our hearts. But for us, let it be You we pray. Amen

Psalm 42:1-2  ESV /  As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

Psalm 63:1-2  ESV / O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.

Philippians 3:8-10  ESV / Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
