The Spirit of God Came Down

Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him. Matthew 3:16

Fear may keep many of us from stepping too far out on the limb. So talk of the Holy Spirit never reaches what it should hold for every Christian. Yet our Savior and Bibles bring God´s Spirit into the picture, and so should we.

We are creatures that have fallen from the intended relationship God made us for. So the least we could do is make every effort to return to Him. God is here, in, and all around. If we do not believe it, we are not children of His. No awareness can come to those who will not look for it.

But, oh, what bliss will come to those who set their hope and faith in the Spirit of God!

We need not explain or even care to. What happened when God´s Spirit descended on Jesus can also come to us in some degree. Let us lift our eyes higher than the heavens. Strain to gaze on nothing short of the Almighty. When we are tuned to mysteries greater than we can fathom, our hearts can be visited from above. The greatest Giver of all longs to pour His Spirit on those who yearn for Him!

Dear Lord, help us yearn to have whatever part with You that You would have for us today.  May we revel in the thought of an eternity of discoveries of You and Your wonders?  What we do not completely understand, let us offer up in faith.  Please do not let our shortsightedness bar us from receiving Your Spirit. Let Your presence fill us and direct us forever closer to You, we pray. Amen
