How Prayer Helps

Praying to God strengthens, directs, and heals. But that is because it places humble souls in God´s presence, where His grace flows.

Even young children can find great comfort and strength in praying to the Lord. The secular world also acknowledges the positive effects of going to God. But the benefits of prayer are much greater than a lighter outlook on life. The Divine is an intelligence and a force of unimaginable and limitless boundaries. When we draw near the Source of our existence, we instantly place ourselves within His arms.

We do not need huge quantities of faith to turn from ourselves and look to God. It can be done by anyone, at any time, and from anywhere. The simple shift of attention places us in the light of God´s care. Once God sees that we are open to experiencing Him, He can move in our lives. The miracles begin.

What the willing venturer may not realize, though, is what the real prize is. While God may part the heavens for us, the treasure we find is Him. The relationship that grows as we turn to God is the only thing within us that ties us to Him forever. All the actions or statements accumulated throughout our lives will not take us to God´s side. But seeking His presence with our hearts each day will.

Dear Lord, open the doors, and let us draw near You. Let Your children experience the wonder of knowing You. Stir in our hearts. Move as never before. Shower us with such awareness of Your nearness and care that our world seems small. Be the limitless, all-powerful God we cling to. Then, You have us near, show us what You have in store for those who care. Amen

Micah 7:7 ESV / But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.

Jeremiah 33:3 ESV / Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.

James 5:13-18 ESV / Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. …

Hebrews 4:16 ESV / Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
