Looking for that Narrow Door

How narrow is the gate and the way is restricted that leads to life! There are few who find it. Matthew 7:14

Christ´s words cut through the shallowness of our faith. They expose our deceit and our disguise. So much of our hearts still remain far away from God. And, so few are concerned enough to do something about it.

But, for those of us who have ears, His message can still reach us. They still carry His concern and urgency. We do not need to remain stuck in our routines or our ruts. We may have time left to make sure we pass through that narrow gate.

If our lives seem easy, we should stop and consult our traveling Companion.  We should ask our Guide what the fuss is about. Why worry about the size of the door we have to pass through? There, in the presence of our Savior, He will show us what corners of our hearts we have held back from Him. Christ can lead us through the narrow passage that few are willing to seek. We could continue along our easy road and pretend all will be well. But, for the joys of walking with the Lord, let us turn.

Dear Lord, do not let us rest on our own certainty. Thanks for warning us to check our headings often. Turn us into the kind of followers who refuse to step out on our own and refuse to sit back at ease. We need you near, even closer than yesterday. If we make it through that narrow door, it will be by pressing closely to Your side. So, hold us to You. And, lead our every step, we pray. Amen
