What Prayer Can Do

Prayer is the mightiest action and position any human can achieve. It places mortals before the living God.

Nowhere on earth is safer than the presence of God. Nothing in our world can touch us when we find ourselves in the hands of the Almighty. All things are where they should be when God is in control. Whatever our situation looks like, it is okay. The outcome will be out of this world.

What makes praying so powerful is that it can take our eyes off of us. It can replace our limited capabilities with the limitlessness of God. This is not to gain more for ourselves. But rather to get ourselves out of the way. Fallen creatures always want to be the center of attention. Humble souls who kneel and yield to God seek to place Him on the throne instead.

But the rewards that come to the praying people are not showers of ease and luxury. They are glimpses of the nearness of our Savior. We who pray draw near the Divine. We walk and talk with the Creator of it all! Every intention of those who seek God first gets purified as we turn from our ways and look to the Lord. Let prayer work its magic. Turn from us to God today.

Dear Lord, we would like to lay everything down and approach You. Our pressing issues are what we bring as offerings to You. Help us lay them down at Your feet instead of dwelling forever in them. Free us from ourselves. Give us vision to see You here and now. Let us seek You and let You take care of the rest. Make prayer the thing that defines us and ties us to You today and every day. We pray, Amen,

James 1:5 ESV / If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 ESV / Pray without ceasing,

James 1:6 ESV / But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

Matthew 6:7 ESV / “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.

Jeremiah 29:11-15 ESV / For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile. “Because you have said, ‘The Lord has raised up prophets for us in Babylon,’

Romans 8:26 ESV / Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
