“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves. Matthew 7:15
It is human nature to look for help amongst ourselves. We latch on to leaders who seem to know what they are talking about, even when it comes to our faith in Christ. We celebrate someone with fresh perspectives, pleasing characters, or a powerful message. Yet, for all our experts to guide us forward, we are no closer to God. We should recognize and admit that we have become misguided sheep.
Jesus´s words could not be more timely. We need to hear and respond. Often, we take His words and then search harder for another leader to follow. But that is not where He would send us. God´s call is always to Him. When will we get it? When will we listen?
Before we start taking someone else´s encouragement for something, let´s go to Christ. That does not mean joining a new religious organization or meeting. It means dropping to our knees and reaching out to Him with our whole hearts in hand. It means turning from all we knew before and getting to know Him. Learn from the Spirit of God what only He can whisper to us. Take our relationship to a new level. Reach a place where we walk and talk constantly with the Lord. When His instruction starts booming in our ears, our intimate bond has begun. We will have found the One to follow.
Dear Jesus, thank You for warning us. Let us take heed and examine our relationship with You again. Let us come seeking You first. Be the most important thing to us. Help us examine all other influences. Do not let us keep any influence that does not bring us to You first or does not aid in our relationship with You. We want You, no substitutes. Save us from anything or anyone we have followed instead of You. We pray. Amen

1 John 4:1 ESV / Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 ESV / For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
Acts 20:28-30 ESV / Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them.
