The men marveled, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” Matthew 8:27
Jesus had just calmed the sea and winds by uttering a few simple words. The whole world seemed about to end for those out at sea that night. The next moment, all was completely calm. An amazing display of power happened that night!
Those who have been out on the waters far from the safety of shore know how little humans control. If something should happen to their vessel, their lives are at stake. That night, Jesus removed all the danger that had threatened those travelers only moments before.
With Jesus, water can be wine and a life-threatening storm can be calm. A terminal illness or even death is no matter for this “manner of man.” Those who have experienced His presence can only marvel at what they see and hear. And we don´t need to be left out. We can still approach our Savior today.
Dear Jesus, we come looking to encounter You now. Help us discover what manner of man You are. Give the word and Your Spirit will lift our understandings. We stand to witness what few dare to search for in our days. Yet our hearts yearn to know You. We long to be amazed and undone. What we will witness of You may take our breath away, but it will leave us thirsting for more. Come. Reveal Yourself to us; we pray. Amen
Psalm 16:11 ESV / You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Jeremiah 23:23-24 ESV / “Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.
Acts 17:27-29 ESV / That they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ Being then God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man.
Psalm 95:2 ESV / Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
