Some Christians take Christ´s every instruction as if the words were meant for them. Making His words pertinent to us allows those words to teach us. It solidifies Jesus as our Teacher. It honors and glorifies Him. It leaves us at His feet with a need for Him as big as life.
Jesus warned us that difficult situations would come to those who followed Him. So the Christian steps forward to receive poor treatment, knowing full well that it is to be expected. The world will not take kindly to one so bold as to step out of line and fall into the footsteps of Christ. Yet we set our hopes on eternal things. We cease to concern ourselves so much with the temporary trials of our day.
Whenever we are self-regarding, we are not God-regarding. Take ourselves out of the picture and Jesus comes into focus. God´s spiritual kingdom looms into view the more we trust in it and the less we trust in our world. Let us focus our hearts on our Savior. The more of our outcome we can place in His hands, the better our chances will be.
Dear Jesus, If we can get ourselves out of the spotlight then You can fill it. When we learn to fill our sight and attention with You alone, mighty things will happen. Little do we need to concern ourselves with the threatening world around us when it is You that we seek. So let us determine each step to draw us closer to You where we will forever be in good hands. Amen
Psalm 121:1-8 ESV / I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
Hebrews 4:16 ESV / Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Romans 8:35-39 ESV / Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
