The Essential Humble Heart

Faith is budding until we find ourselves in the presence of God. But to get there, we must have a humble heart.

Christian´s today place too much emphasis on an intellectual understanding of God. It is an important step in that we need to be aware of who God is. But it will never show us what meeting Him is like. That is reserved for the few who will press forward in spirit. We are creatures with limitations. God is without limitations. So full understanding is impossible. Study is important if we would know Him. But knowing about God should lead us to encounter Him.

For those who would wake up to the presence of God, one thing is essential. The believer will need to humble themselves first. Knowledge often brings pride. We puff up with what we have already learned. But with God, the first thing we must learn is that we haven´t seen anything yet! An encounter with the presence of God will leave a soul bewildered and undone. So let us empty our hearts of us, pray for a humble heart, and seek the presence of God.

Dear Lord, get it through our heads that whatever we can imagine still won´t scrape the surface with You. Give us humble hearts so that our worship will be worthy of You. We long to stand before You even though the experience will leave us trembling and in wonder. Prepare us now, we pray. Amen

Matthew 18:3-4 ESV / And said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
