The Distractions of This World

Pray that we are close enough to our Friend Jesus to walk with Him all throughout our day.

Many pressing matters tear our attention away from God each day. They are important things that we must attend to, like family, work, and caring for others. But no matter how important or pressing, they don´t have to break our attention away from the Lord. Instead, they are the first things we should bring to Him. A tiny switch in our focus will make a world of difference. Rather than leaving God to go and deal with our day. Why not learn to bring everything else there, where the Lord is? Where we and our Savior spend time together is the place and time to handle it all.

If someone came to visit us at our home, we would not stop attending to the needs of our children, for example. We could carry on chatting with our visitor while fixing the dinner. We could ask our friend to pass us some ingredients or bring something from the fridge. Treating our lives as if our Friend Jesus was with us every moment would only enhance our day. Tackling it all together would give us the time to spend with the Lord. It would also let Him help us with everything along the way.

Dear Lord, make us experts in finding You with us and keeping You there. We don´t want to walk one moment of any day on our own. Be with us. Be our God, our Helper, our best Friend. Teach us to be constant companions to You who have never left or forsaken us. Amen

Luke 10:38-42 ESV / Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

Hebrews 12:1 ESV / Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

Colossians 3:1-2 ESV / If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

Luke 21:34 ESV / “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.
