One would think that every last Christian knows what is in the great heart of our God. We can´t count the sermons, books, radio and television shows, music, and studies. But with all this bombardment to our senses, are we hearing what God whispers to us deep within our souls?
Our call has always been to God Himself. It cannot save us to huddle together in like-minded groups and pat each other on the back for being members. Every individual must work out for ourselves where we stand in direct relation to the Lord. Heaven is not reserved for a particular human organization. Our alignment isn´t towards men. We will all be found with or without a strong personal relationship with our Lord when we are called to account.
One of the greatest blessings and gifts God ever gave us was our mental capabilities. He places within us the ability to learn, to think, and to reason. The human mind is capable of amazing feats of assimilating information. We take a look at a situation and weigh all the given information. Then we process it, and finally we come to our conclusions. The whole process is marvelous. But if we are not careful, it may be fatal to our souls.
As beneficial as thinking is, it was not given as the saving factor for mankind. Our brains are machines created to serve a purpose. But there is another realm where the Spirit dwells. In this realm, our reason is too limited to be worth much. In God´s kingdom, all things center on Him, not on us or our mental capacities. Bonding our hearts and souls to Him in a deep relationship opens us to Him. Our own reason could keep us from ever closing that gap.
Pray that we do not miss out on what God has for us. Pray we are not trusting our intellects. But rather following where our closest Friend is leading us!
Dear Lord, we know that there will be those who will try to approach you with their minds and not their hearts. They have studied and drawn their conclusions about who and what You are. We do not want to miss out on knowing You. It pleases You to show Yourself to those simple, trusting hearts. So take away any faith we have in our powers and save us. Let us draw near our Savior and find our strength in that bond. Help us to unlearn our wisdom and become like infants again. Give us hearts that follow You because that is where we want to be. Amen
1“Most certainly, I tell you, one who doesn’t enter by the door into the sheep fold, but climbs up some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2But one who enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4Whenever he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5They will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him; for they don’t know the voice of strangers.” 6Jesus spoke this parable to them, but they didn’t understand what he was telling them. 7Jesus therefore said to them again, “Most certainly, I tell you, I am the sheep’s door. 8All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them. 9I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out and will find pasture. 10The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly. 11“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who doesn’t own the sheep, sees the wolf coming, leaves the sheep, and flees. The wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them. 13The hired hand flees because he is a hired hand and doesn’t care for the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and I’m known by my own; 15even as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep. 16I have other sheep which are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will hear my voice. They will become one flock with one shepherd. John 10:1-16 WEB
